ABOUT THE SCHNITZELS

Austria and Egypt are two countries that could not be more different from one another--we're talking dirndls vs. pyramids--but they share one beautiful passion for something, and that is food. So it was only to be expected, growing up amid both cultures, that we would end up loving food just as much.

From making Schnitzels as 7 year-olds, when we could barely reach the kitchen counter, to sitting with our grandma on her balcony in Cairo rolling warak enab; we have some of our fondest memories associated with the ritual of cooking and eating, something that has been passed down to us over generations.

The kitchen and the dinner table have always been the most integral parts of our houses, they have been the places where we have had our most heated discussions, confessions, arguments, shared some of the greatest laughs, tears, but most importantly, with a family scattered all over the globe, it has always been a place of gathering and always made a house feel like a proper home.

We've been lucky to have learned from the best of the best: our Teta in Egypt, our Oma in Austria, our Mom and Dad, aunts, uncles and friends, all of whom we've watched cook and set some of the most delicious dinners we can remember.

We not only hope to share some delicious recipes from two countries whose exquisite cuisines are so often neglected, but eclectic recipes inspired by our international upbringing and from having lived all over, as well as share some anecdotes and stories along the way. After all, with cooking and eating, stories are practically a given.

So here it is - a blog for our family, friends and for you, to come and enjoy reading recipes that will hopefully be enjoyed with company full of joy, love and laughter!

We wish you guten Appetit!

Yours truly,

the Schnitzels
